How to Structure a Partner Birth Prep Session in Clinic

Participants who register for this course have the option to attend the course live-online and/or watch the recorded session later. The recording will be available to all registrants for a 1-month period after each session, and access is provided on the next business day. This allows participants who may not be able to attend live-online to still benefit from the course content. Course Description:

This live 4-hour mini course/workshop is intended for healthcare and wellness professionals who work with pregnant individuals and are looking to educate clients and their birth partners to advocate for themselves and have a positive and supported birth experience. Participants will come away with a framework to help their client’s partners to become active participants in the birth process.

Course Objectives: 

In this workshop, you will:

• Learn how to educate the clients to recognize and address different nervous system states in the birthing person, including fight, flight, freeze, and fawn.
• Learn how to educate the birth partner to positively impact the birthing person’s pain experience.
• Learn how to concisely explain the stages of labour, pushing, and birth to clients.
• Learn how to teach comfort measures for birth and labour positions for medicated and physiologic birth.
• Learn how to teach the evidence around positions for and types of pushing.
• Provide a variety of ways to help your clients/patients advocate for themselves during pregnancy and birth including education about different birth interventions and educating clients on advocacy and informed decision-making strategies.
• Discuss current birth trends and myths about birth.

Audience: This course is open to all healthcare and wellness professionals.
