This course provides infant feeding therapists (OT, SLP, PT) foundational knowledge about breastfeeding to enhance their ability to help clients achieve their breastfeeding goals. Areas of focus will include understanding the difference and similarities between breast and bottle feeding, impact of tethered oral tissues on breastfeeding, and approaches to common breastfeeding issue in the NICU/hospital and in the outpatient setting.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  1. Compare oral function used on the breast and bottle during infant feeding
  2. Relate how tethered oral tissue impacts oral control for breastfeeding
  3. Recognize factors that impact breastfeeding success in premature and other hospitalized infants
  4. Select tools appropriate to support specific breastfeeding challenges of the dyad

AUDIENCE:
This course is designed for OTs, PTs and SLPs to provide foundational knowledge about breastfeeding.
