Four strategic priorities guide our work

OPA’s Strategic Objectives in Detail

How we will advance each priority

Focus on what matters to the profession

This includes our advocacy work, a focus on the priorities identified by our committees and consideration of the health and well-being of our members.

Our role in Health System Transformation

Our role includes being at the table to influence how physiotherapy is included in the health system. This includes interprofessional care, team-based care, and ICSC (Surgical Centre) as examples.

Increasing our membership base

Deliberate and dedicated focus on increasing our membership base. This includes supporting students as they move to practice, as well as working to engage IEPTs in our membership.

Organizational excellence

While more internal in its focus, this includes policy and governance work, continuing to evolve our policies and practices, and digitizing and leveraging tools to increase our efficiency.

Strategic Plan FAQs

A strategic plan outlines an organization’s goals, objectives, and actions for achieving its mission over a specific period, typically 3-5 years. It serves as a roadmap that helps organizations focus their efforts, allocate resources effectively, and measure progress towards their goals.

Strategic planning sessions with the Board of Directors take place prior to developing the strategic plan to consider what is most important for the Association. In these sessions, the Board considers what is most important for physiotherapists currently, the current healthcare landscape in Ontario, and all areas of the healthcare system. The Board also collects input from volunteer members, including committees and district leadership. OPA’s strategic plan is then drafted by our CEO and reviewed, edited and approved by the Board of Directors.

The Strategic Plan informs how OPA allocates its resources to advance the profession. As a member-driven association, we also address the interests and concerns of our members at an individual level. Our engagement with physiotherapists continues to inform our plan, ensuring that we remain focused on what matters.
