Your expertise. Your interests. Your voice. 

OPA recognizes that our members’ backgrounds, skills, interests, experiences, and expertise are the profession’s most valuable assets, and essential to shaping the future of physiotherapy in Ontario. We want to ensure that all members have the opportunity to contribute to the issues that matter to them, and in the way that works best for them.

 Getting involved with your association means your voice is heard, and means you are able to engage with your peers on key professional issues – creating excellent opportunities to expand your network, and learn from others. 

A new way to engage

Focused Consultation and Working Groups 

We are creating more flexible and accessible ways for members to contribute to OPA’s work. Do you have expertise in a particular clinical area, an interest in a policy issue? Some examples include the CPC Program, Auto Insurance Programs/Compensation, WSIB, Health System Policy and Transformation and more.

OPA brings members together to provide input on specific policy issues, initiatives, and priorities. Opportunities may include: email feedback, surveys, one-off virtual meetings, short-term working groups.

Participation in each opportunity is always optional. Complete the 5-minute form and you will be added to our list of interested members and will be made aware of upcoming opportunities to contribute. You can decide each time if you are able to contribute to that specific opportunity.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Join Your District Executive  

OPA members belong to one of 16 geographic Districts across Ontario. Districts bring a broad base of support and the unique perspective of local health issues and professional matters to the provincial level. 
   
District Executive roles include President and Secretary, among others, and each role has key responsibilities that include selecting representatives to participate as voting delegates at OPA’s Annual Members Meeting. They serve as the primary contact between the district and OPA staff, as well as the Board.  

We are currently seeking a Durham District President and Niagara District President.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Join an OPA Committee

OPA has a series of standing committees that support key corporate and operational functions. These include: Awards, Governance, Education, and Finance Committee.

Committees meet up 4 times per year and support OPA in several areas including conference and event planning, educational programming, fund allocation for member benefits and resources, and Board of Director support.

Join the Board of Directors

Every year, OPA invites members to apply for the Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of nine physiotherapist volunteers elected by the membership. As the governing body of the Association, the Board is responsible for setting policies and strategic directions, determining the budget, and hiring the Chief Executive Officer to implement the Association’s programs.
   
Board nominations open at the beginning of the calendar year. Check your member emails and site for when Board nominations are open.

Celebrating volunteer excellence in Northern Ontario

Rhonda Matthews recently received OPA’s Outstanding Volunteer Award!

Rhonda was celebrated for her volunteer contributions to the Northern Ontario District of the Ontario Physiotherapy Association. Rhonda has volunteered for several years in an underserved, geographically sparse region and has held various positions with the Northern Ontario District of OPA, including Treasurer, Communications Coordinator, and now District President.
