Request to Review and Increase Physiotherapist Reimbursement Rates Within Ontario’s Auto Insurance System

I am writing to express my concern regarding the current reimbursement rates for physiotherapy services provided through Ontario’s automobile insurance system.

Current reimbursement levels no longer reflect the economic realities of providing physiotherapy services in Ontario, including the costs required to maintain sustainable clinic operations and deliver timely care.

As physiotherapists, we are committed to helping people in Ontario injured in motor vehicle accidents recover, return to work, and regain their independence. However, maintaining timely access to high-quality rehabilitation services becomes increasingly challenging when funding structures do not keep pace with the cost of providing care.

When patients cannot access the rehabilitation they need, recovery may be delayed, and additional pressure can be placed on other parts of the healthcare system. A sustainable auto insurance system must ensure that injured people living in Ontario can access appropriate care when they need it.

I am asking the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) and the Ministry of Finance to immediately:

•	Increase physiotherapy reimbursement rates within Ontario’s automobile insurance system consistent with current physiotherapist market rates; and
•	Establish a transparent and predictable process for future reimbursement rate reviews

Physiotherapists across Ontario want to continue supporting injured people living in Ontario, but the system must be sustainable for both patients and providers.

After 12 years with no rate increase, you must take action to ensure Ontario’s auto insurance system supports timely access to rehabilitation care.
