Presentation to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs

May 27, 2025

On May 27, OPA’s CEO, Sarah Hutchison, presented to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs on Bill 2, Protect Ontario Through Free Trade Within Canada Act, 2025 which amends various acts.

While OPA supports labour mobility and the intent of Bill 2, we noted that outstanding regulations for Scope of Practice must be implemented to ensure that Ontario is harmonized to advances in other provinces. This will reduce barriers and enhance labour mobility and create a practice environment that will attract and retain physiotherapists in Ontario.

Black History Month 2024

February 22, 2024

This February, OPA recognizes Black History Month. We celebrate Black physiotherapists, physiotherapy residents, students and physiotherapist assistants and the contributions they have made and continue to make in advancing the profession and excellence in our healthcare system.

OPA celebrates Black leaders in the healthcare system, which includes those working in the Black Healthcare Professionals Network to support career advancement of Black professionals. OPA supports and learns from the work of the BHPN. Find out more about their work at the Black Healthcare Professionals Network website.

At InterACTION 2024, OPA will welcome The Black Physiotherapy Association (BPTA) to our networking session. The BPTA’s mission is to enrich the health and wellness of Black physiotherapists and the communities they serve through fellowship, education, mentoring, and advocacy. We encourage attendees to engage with The Black Physiotherapy Association to learn more and discuss how everyone can work together to facilitate health equity, representation, and justice in healthcare, research, education, and leadership.

The Government of Canada also provides resources, information and toolkits for Black History Month. Find them on their Government of Canada website throughout the month of February.

OPA continues to seek out opportunities to grow in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion through activities including education and advocacy on issues that Black, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+ persons face in the profession and healthcare system.
